Slotted Ribbed Shawl

This pattern is for a size medium, so if you need smaller or larger size, then the work to RC60 will have to be changed to get what you want. The difference with the cast on sts is how wide it will be.

On the bulky I got 4 stitches and 5 rows per inch around TD6 using Worsted Weight Yarn.

Cast on 60 (80) sts on Main Bed.

{This makes a much nicer cast on edge rather than the 2 or 3 row circular cast on. A little more work but well worth the time.}

Knit 1 row across.

Transfer sts to make a 2X2 Rib with the ribber.

Hang ribber comb and barrel weights.

Knit to RC60.

Transfer sts to main bed, then decrease in half by using a garter bar, or work WY and then hang 2 sts per needle.

Knit 30 (40) rows and end with WY and remove off of machine.

Hang the row between the rib and St st onto working needles.

Knit 30 (40) rows St st.

Now hang the last row with live sts onto the working needles to close that slotted part of the shawl.

Knit 1 row.

Transfer sts to do 2x2 rib and hang ribber comb or triangle weight with large barrel weight.

Knit 30 rows 2x2 rib.

Bind off.

It will look like this schematic, now you can make both ends the same length if you wish, but there is the center part that is a tube where the other end will slide into that tube area.
