Machine Knit Gloves in 3 sizes

Below a photo of a way to sew up the fingers. Click on photo to view larger photo.

Size: Small (Medium, Large)
Gauge: 4 stitches per inch on the Bulky
TD7 using Vanna's Choice Yarn

This should work out for the 3 sizes, only the medium one was tested by myself and also used in the video to show.

This of course is more guidelines and one can add their Fair Isle or other design to the hand part if they want, will have to be a small design. There are many possibilities that one can do with any clothing item, just depends on what your making. Maybe making the child one first if you have a child in your life or donate them to a worthy cause (you donate them, don't give to another for them to take your credit) as well.

  1. Cast on 31 (35, 39) stitches.
  2. Knit 16 (20, 22) rows.
  3. Reform to rib, this would do nice for a 1X1 starting with the 2nd needle from the end, or maybe even a 2X1 rib and reforming every 3rd stitch.
  4. Increase 1 stitch on either end to make it 32 (36, 40) stitches.
  5. Set RC to zeros.
  6. Knit 4 rows.
  7. Start increasing on each end for the thumb gusset.
  8. The way I did it was to transfer the end stitch out 1, pick up the purl bump from the stitch on the inside.
  9. Knit 2 rows.
  10. Now take the 2 end stitches and transfer out, pick up the purl bump from the stitch on the inside again.
  11. Knit 2 rows.
  12. Continue in this manner of adding 1 more stitch to transfer out until you have 40 (46, 52) stitches in work.
  13. Keep 6 (7, 8) stitches nearest carriage at WP, push the rest of the needles to HP and set your carriage to Hold and knit 1 row to get the yarn over to the hand area.
  14. Now we need to get the thumb stitches off on WY. It may be easier to Hand Knit these stitches with WY, set carriage to hold so that it won't knit those stitches. Place 5 (6, 7) stitches on WY each side and remove those stitches off machine.
  15. You should now have 30 (34, 38) stitches left.
  16. Increase 1 stitch each end so that you are back to the 32 (36, 40) stitches.
  17. Make sure that carriage is on side of where the yarn was left off at.
  18. You have 1 stitch already knitted, so put that needle to HP and push the rest to FWP, Knit across. Now take the carriage off of Hold or push that one needle to FWP.
  19. Knit 4 (6, 8) rows. You want to mark the center 2 stitches, I like to put a bobby pin on them as very easy to get them on and off the stitches, you can use CC yarn as well.
  20. Work about 6 rows of WY and take off machine.
  21. Pinky Finger: Bring 8 (9, 10) needles out to work, start with hanging the 2 marked stitches in the center 2 needles, then hang 3 (3, 4) on the left and 3 (4, 4) on the right.
  22. Add weight or hold material under the bed as your knitting 8 (12, 14) rows.
  23. Transfer every other stitch over to the next needle, push empty needles to NWP, Knit 1 row, cut yarn long enough to sew down seam and thread tail through all stitches, pull tight and sew later.
  24. Ring Finger: Bring out 10 (11, 12) needles out to work and take the end stitch from the beginning of the last finger on the glove part and hang them on the center needles and pick up 4 (5, 5) stitches on the left side along with 4 (4, 5) on the right side.
  25. Hang weight or hold as before, Knit 14 (18, 20) rows. Repeat as for last finger with transferring EOS over to the next, Knit 1 row, cut yarn, thread through all stitches, pull tight, sew later.
  26. Middle Finger: You will do the same with 4 (4, 4) stitches on the left and 4 (4, 5) stitches on the right, Knit 16 (20, 22) rows, transfer EOS over one needle and gather bind off.
  27. Index Finger: Same as the others with 4 (5, 5) stitches on the left and 4 (4, 4) stitches on the right, Knit 14 (18, 20) rows, transfer EOS over one needle and gather bind off.
  28. Thumb: With purl side facing you, hang the 10 (12, 14) stitches on working needles, Knit 8 (10, 12) rows, transfer EOS over one needle and gather bind off.
  29. Sew up all finger and thumb seams, weave or hide yarn tails, make mate and your done.
